well, not all night, but i stayed up late writing for the first time in a long time. it is a different thing, that writing. much more mechanical but intensely pleasurable; it’s popcorn-y, it’s like staying up to watch late night tv. you are tempted to indulge yourself, you are tempted by flourishes and asides and letting all the looks drag on for about three sentences too long. or perhaps it was just the nature of the scene that i was completely rebuilding, all 20,000 words of it. at once mechanical—they now must start from a different place and different things must happen, but all in the same setting—and yet pleasurable, as there are some flirtations that i get to revisit and wallow in anew. second only to revisiting your own real life flirtations, with a couple drinks in your belly and only the quiet of the wee hours as your soundtrack.
Archives for July 2011
i have not paid much attention to author blogs in my life, nor have i tuned in to a lot of writerly debates, and thus i missed the whole m. john harrison worldbuilding kerfuffle. but it is interesting stuff, and worth revisiting, so i am putting a link to the old entry here:
the wordpress site is gone but this is a way to get back to it.
i will be mostly pruning dead plot threads.
