spent a long weekend with the family, and got to look at a few art-things for the novel besides. despite having some entire days with no writing happening (an odd feeling now) i managed to get through my 5k minimum last week with a healthy 6600 words written/rewritten. A little slower this week but hopefully after i finish syncing up all the rough work i did on the plane yesterday i should be able to get out a last couple thousand to hit my quota by sunday.
the ipad thing is good. i’m still just, ahem, nervous about bringing work back into scrivener from elements. in an ideal world this is not the project i’d try this out on, and i’m thinking to make a little scrivener file for a short story and work on revisions that way first. at least that way any damage will be contained and i won’t worry that i’ll find myself looking at a chapter and thinking, hadn’t i written something different here? wasn’t there more? was this italicized?
oh scrivener ipad app, you cannot come soon enough.
but the bluetooth keyboard setup was fabulous. and even on the dodgy onscreen keyboard i wrote almost straight thru on both flights. that keyboard has an interesting effect on my prose: on the one hand i don’t bother to fiddle with formatting because it’s too annoying, so i find myself just pounding through the scenes and thus covering a lot of ground; at the same time i type a little slower, because it makes for more accurate work (especially with the autocorrect running, i’ve gotta get that turned off) and further spares me any formatting/cutting and pasting. in short, it’s great for just getting the words out, period, and to hell with how it reads.
in fact, it’s the perfect nanowrimo setup. and november is right around the corner . . .
