Not once but thrice! Events in October

October 6, 2018 by L.S. Johnson

I am back from Florida, where the regular afternoon storms felt appropriate for this nightmare of a timeline. But in between the rage and the phoning, the phoning, because November is coming (it is coming, it has to be coming), I’ve somehow got three events this month:

October 13: I will be at the Livermore Public Library’s Indie Author Day Showcase. There will be a talk by Andy Weir from 1-2 PM, followed by a book sale from 2-4 PM. I’ll have copies of all three books, along with a little swag. Come find me and say hello!

October 20: I’ll be reading at Litquake along with four other members of Women Who Submit Writing: Becca Gomez Farrell, Jennifer Hasegawa, Janna Layton, and Dominica Phetteplace. Hear a variety of work and learn more about WWS and how it encourages women to get their work out for publication. 6:30-7:30 in the Women’s Building.

October 31: And last but not least, I’ll be reading on Halloween at the Octopus Literary Salon in Oakland, 5-7 PM. It’s a night of “Grimdark, Horror, and Fantasy” with Eric Esser, Jonathan Fortin, Mercy Hollow, E.M. Markoff, and myself. There will be books and creepiness galore!

I hope to see some of you out in the real world, scary though it is. xo

babylon berlin

June 4, 2018 by L.S. Johnson

Rich historical setting, multiple narratives, debauchery and decadence, AND two musical numbers bracketing a whole spectrum of sexuality and class? Yes, please. I’m only on episode 7. Don’t give it away.

(Seriously, though, it’s a bit of synchronicity to come across this as I plot out the revised book . How do the various character arcs develop? Where do the episodes seem to drag, where does it feel like we skipped something important, or lingered too long in a scene? I am taking notes, BB. When I’m not getting carried away with your gorgeousness, that is.)

(Leviathan is still coming. This is distracting me from pre-launch jitters is all.)

World Fantasy and Harkworth Hall

November 1, 2017 by L.S. Johnson

As I write this, Harkworth Hall is uploading to Kobo, iBooks, B&N, and Gumroad, and I believe the price has already dropped at Amazon. Because that’s right, it’s a sale, to celebrate the fact that I am still getting on a plane for San Antonio tomorrow despite all that 2017 could throw at me. Grab it by Monday!

So yes, I will be at WFC! Look for me at the mass signing on Friday night, where I’ll have copies of Vacui Magia and Harkworth Hall for sale, and again on Sunday morning for a reading/hanging out time at 10:30. There may be pastries. There may be a special guest reader, a dear friend of mine, who will read for a few minutes before me. I will be reading part of “Vacui Magia” and maybe another little something depending on the time. So sweet, sweet, and bittersweet, which feels to me the theme of this weekend: how sweet to be there, to be nominated; how bittersweet the road to this point.
