This has been … a year. There were ups and downs and nothing went the way I thought it would. Sometimes it went better and sometimes it went worse and the only constant in it all were readers: you folks out there who bought the books and signed up for the serial and answered my newsletters and chatted at conventions and were just there, at the other end of the line, listening to all my tales of anti-heroes and found families and people trying to do what’s right even when the world says they are inherently wrong. So thank you, thank you. Thank you for everything. Now let’s turn the page together. Let’s welcome 2022 and maybe, just maybe, this year will treat us more gently than the last.
This is also usually where I recap what I published this year (for eligibility, for accountability):
“Tender Mercies” in Paranoid Tree (microfiction)
“The O’Brien and Palmer Show” in G Is for Ghosts (novelette)
“What the City Wants” in 99 Tiny Terrors (flash)
Seeds of Truer Natures (novella)
Prima Materia (serial, ongoing)
Not bad for a plague year. I’ll take it, with gratitude. See you on the next page.
