Harkworth Hall

May 26, 2017 by L.S. Johnson

Last November was not a good month in the U.S., and the months since have not improved on matters. I know I am not the only one who woke up the day after the election filled with dread; I am not the only one who longed for some kind of escape from what was to come.

In my case, that escape turned out to be writing Harkworth Hall. (Yes, it was once called Hillsborough Hall, until I remembered just where I got Hillsborough from. It would have been very confusing.)

So: it’s November 2016, right after the election. I wanted to write something simple, an 18th-century fairy tale with an HEA ending, and I blurted out a rather cathartic rough draft in two weeks … Six months and several drafts later and the final version is much darker and longer (surprising no one I’m sure), but I’m pleased with it nonetheless. A friend of mine called it a f/f horror-romance, by way of Austen and Lovecraft. I’ll leave it to you to decide where it falls on those overlapping genre spectrums.

We go live on August 1. If you’re on the mailing list, there will be free ARCs to be had, so now is a good time to sign up (if you’re coming to this post directly, just click on “Traversing Z” at the top and you’ll be taken to the home page – the signup form is at the bottom). Can’t wait to share this one with you!
