esp. now that we are out of that mercury retrograde.
i am, however, starting it off with two rejections. one was one of those deals where you definitely made it through a first hurdle, so you start to get hopeful . . . i keep trying them, and this was the longest consideration to date, and it got a personal note back. but considering how long it took me to write the story, and how emotionally exhausting it was, i’m not sure when i’ll be able to top this submission . . .
and then the same story was rejected by someone who took the time to write me feedback, which again was nice and appreciated and i wonder now if i’m even communicating the premise? because he wasn’t quite getting it, and i tend to view longtime editors as pretty savvy readers.
but again, i’m at that point with the story where it may still have some rough patches, but the structure, the overall flow, feels pretty set and done . . . hrmm.
i feel, as always, too distracted to really sit down with it. i’ve got a lot of family/house stuff on my plate this spring, and having my work hours increase, well. while it’s nice to have the extra money i am really feeling the lack of work-at-home days. the commute is long and the days are slipping past with not a lot getting done.
on the other hand, i did get a few words further on in the wolves rewrite, though it was not pretty. there needs to be a “pretty” pass done on this chapter, once i’ve straightened out the pov. some of those phrases are ugly, more placeholders to tell me what i mean to say there, not actual description or dialogue. but anything that gets you moving, right?
