a very frustrating weekend of mixed-up plans and feeling under the weather meant that, other than writing down a little piece (conceived upon awakening in the wee hours of sunday morning but feeling too ill to actually drag myself out of bed and write it all out) nothing got done on any writerly front. so, to get back into some kind of groove, started this morning with a little reading instead:
catherynne valente’s silently and very fast is quite, quite lovely:

it reminded me to slow the eff down. you don’t get something that jewel-like in a week or even a month (or maybe ms. valente does; i certainly do not). but i get impatient, the moreso now because the writing feels like starting from scratch again, going back to the beginning again.
a life struggle, me and the patience thing.
also this little article which of course makes my heart pitterpatter:

yes please. more of this and less of the grim websites that say things like “if your project is over 150k then cut it, otherwise it doesn’t stand a chance.”
ideas. story. craft. patience.
