Harkworth Hall

The Painter’s Widow is out in the world …

June 30, 2020 by L.S. Johnson

… and you can find all the lovely Buy links here.

And my goodness, what a launch day it’s shaping up to be. Right now my newsletter is stuck in Mailerlite, who chose this past weekend to do its largest upgrade ever … and had so many problems that it has suspended all email campaigns while it fixes them.

So this is a rule of self-publishing: no launch is smooth. I think with every book I’ve had some kind of unexpected problem, either in production or launch. I’ve learned to build in extra time and money into schedules. Now I’ll be adding an email alternative to the list … I have yet to find a service that’s as cheap per month as Mailerlite, but for something this important, having some kind of alternative is a must.

Meanwhile, Harkworth Hall is on sale, and that is going smashingly. So not all bad …

Leviathan is coming

April 11, 2018 by L.S. Johnson

Dear readers, it’s finally happening. Forgive me for dawdling; I was loathe to leave this story. But in just two months it will be your turn … watch this space for preorder information, official publication date, and more.

We will survive this, Caroline.

When a stranger arrives in their village and asks to see the damaged bay, Caroline Daniels and Joanna Chase know that word of the creature has spread despite the efforts of Mr. Smith. With tensions simmering between France and England, they depart in haste for Medby, where Sir Edward’s brother resides. There they hope to discover if Thomas Masterson has stepped into Sir Edward’s shoes, and now wields the monster called Leviathan.

The situation in Medby, however, is far worse than they anticipated. Claiming the French attacked his ships, the younger Masterson seems about to launch an audacious reply. But his true plans are not so straightforward, and there is little time for Caroline and Jo to uncover them.

With the threat of war demanding risks in kind, Caroline and Jo must weigh their deepening affection against the greater good … and learn to trust not only their instincts, but their hearts as well.

In like a lion, out like a lion

March 26, 2018 by L.S. Johnson

March has been a month for practicing gratitude: for the gift of unemployment, which has meant time to write; for this writing life; for the support of family, friends, and felines; and for you readers out there, who are the other half of the writing equation. Leviathan is off with its editor and I am 3/4 of the way through revising my poor neglected novel and remembering all that I loved about it. It is an overdue reconciliation. My head, as usual, is bursting with story stuff and I would like about three clones, please: I’m guessing two more to help get all this stuff out of my head and a third one to earn a paycheck … Yep, I think three would do the trick.

FOGcon was a great, exhausting whirlwind as the best cons are. If you had more questions about my panels, my reading, or if I just shot past you in the hall, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m always happy to keep the conversation going.

In Leviathan news: to ramp up for the release I’m serializing Harkworth Hall on Radish, so if you have an account there do check it out! I had to break up a couple of chapters to conform to their suggested lengths, but I think it still works out to be less $$$ than the ebook, and you’ll be able to read it in that nice clean Radish format.

And the Leviathan cover is coming, though newsletter folks will get to see it first. Which means it’s an excellent time to sign up! —>
