reworked possible new prologue which, if nothing else, has gone a long way towards refining the backstory for myself.  fighting my own tendencies towards preciousness and playing it close.

i have this urge to dump all the quote marks and replace them with em-dashes (modernist yumminess).  i hear em-dash dialogue differently in my head, i think it makes me write fuller prose.  or maybe it’s just the aftereffects of polishing clotho?
